Profile

Raghu is a seasoned and senior executive with over 36 years of experience in HR. He retired from General Electric as the CHRO in early 2019, after having worked in the firm for 25 years. His previous experience includes organizations such as American Express and Xerox.

Raghu’s experience at GE spans different businesses and corporate roles, three different continents and a wide variety of challenges.

As the CHRO, he was responsible for leading the Company’s 4500 member HR function through a challenging time. Apart from substantive restructuring, organization redesign and business turnaround, Raghu partnered with the CEO and the Board to drive business strategy through refreshing the talent and performance agenda, revising compensation and benefits philosophy and rethinking learning and development. His efforts resulted, among other accomplishments, in GE being named as a top 5 company for employment brand, 9th in using social media for hiring talent, among the top companies to work for in places like the UK and China, and moving up 3 ranks to be ranked 18th by the Drucker Institute on Innovation.

At GE Healthcare, Raghu was involved in a complete cultural transformation. In a short period of 18 months, the business moved to be the highest performing GE business in 2017. In his stint as the Head of Talent and Chief Learning Officer, Raghu ran the People Management process for all of GE as well as headed the world-famous management development Institute at Crotonville, New York. In this role, Raghu worked with the Board on Succession for the CEO and business leader roles. His efforts resulted in GE being rated No. 1 on Leadership Development. Raghu also drove the rethinking of the decades old performance management system.

Raghu was also the HR leader for GE’s most high performing business, GE Aviation. His other stints included Head of HR for GE’s Sales and Marketing; GE Capital Europe, Middle East and Africa, where the company went through several acquisitions and integrations and, GE Capital, Asia Pacific during the financial crisis in the late 90s. He started his career as the HR leader for GE Capital, India, and was responsible for setting up a complete off-shoring platform for GE, which was later spun off into a separate listed company (now called Genpact).

Raghu has often been invited to share his expertise in forums and colleges including Harvard, MIT, Yale, Northwestern. He also loves to write and share his reflections through internal blogs as well Linked-in or Harvard Business Review articles. He was ranked as one of the top 50 most influential Asian Americans in 2009.

Raghu has an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and was also a Fulbright Scholar (under the Humphrey fellow program) from the University of Minnesota. He is married with two daughters and lives in Chicago.
